The IRS is at it again… Since they were shut down on their authority to mandate all tax preparers get continuing education and take a competency test, they have now developed a “voluntary certification” that preparers can opt into.  The program is called the Annual Federal Tax Refresher Course; and yes, successful completion of the the course will earn you a nice shiny certificate from the IRS to hang on your office wall!  The program will consist of reviewing approximately 6 hours of study materials or course work then taking a 100 question quiz that must be passed with at least a 70% score.   To obtain the certificate you will also have to complete Continuing Education throughout the year.  The requirements for TY2014 are 3 credits in the field of Tax Law Updates, 3 credits in the field of General Tax Law topics, and 2 hours of Ethics.

Federal Direct will offer the study materials and will administer the quiz in our online portal.  Availability is scheduled for release the first of August.  Feel free to give us a call with any questions for for early registration, (866) 357-2052!
