PTIN Price Change & Other PTIN Updates

In years past the cost of a new PTIN or renewing a PTIN was $64.25 or $63 respectively. However, the price has recently changed and may stay at this new price point for an undetermined period of time. The new cost, whether applying for a new PTIN or renewing your PTIN, will be the same, and that new price is $50.

You can renew your PTIN as of Nov. 2nd. Although, there are a couple glitches with the IRS’ PTIN system which is incorrectly reporting the expiration date. Pro Tip: when you renew your PTIN, be sure to double check the PTIN year, and your message that will be present in your PTIN message box. Typically the initial error is corrected on the document that the IRS sends you.

Also, if you have not been staying on top of your CE and wonder how far along you are, you can check these amounts on your PTIN portal. You can reported credits for 2013, 2014, and 2015. If you are an AFSP, be sure that you have done all the courses and the test.
