Extended Deadline for E-Filing 2010 Tax Returns… Oct. 31st, 2011

Oct 15th is the date published on the IRS’ official e-file chart, but they have changed it to 8am Eastern, Monday October 31st.  There is no additional time past this date to electronically resubmit returns that have been rejected, they will have to be paper filed.

  • What does this mean for my office?  –  Any 2010 returns that you want to have e-filed you need to get into us prior to 8am Eastern on October 31st.  We suggest you get these to us prior to this absolute deadline, but October 31st at 8am Eastern is the comprehensive cut off time!

Now that the IRS is converting over to the “Modernized E-Filing” (MEF) system they will be accepting returns electronically year-round, so this should be the last e-file deadline that you have to be concerned about.  We will keep you posted as more information on the MEF system becomes available.
